Venn Diagram

L.I: To compare the past and present rules.

For this reading activity we were tasked to compare the olympics rules from the past and the present using a venn Diagram. There was a big difference between the past olympic rules and the present. The rules that stayed the same was no shoving, no holding, no cutting of other racers.

This task was interesting because i found out that Poros won the race.

POROS

This week for reading we read a text called Poros of Malia. This text was about a man named Poros who competed in the sprints in the ancient olympics. Poros had won this event in the olympics prior so he had to win or they would have been made fun of. After we finished the text we answered a list of questions, by answering these question we got a better understanding of the story because it helped us remember the details and the main idea of the text.

Flow Charts and Radio Chat

  Learning Intentions

To understand how flowcharts relate to coding blocks.

To understand how to get the microbit to talk to another microbit using radio signals.

Here is my flowchart practice document.

Link to DLO

The next activity today was coding the microbit to send a radio signal to another microbit. We had to make sure that both microbits were on the same group number so we didn't accidentally get a message from another group.

Provocation

LI: to Create a DLO that shows both points of view as well as your own.

We were tasked to make a DLO using provocation. A provocation is an action or speech that can show a powerful image in the reader’s mind.  For this task we picked an image from a site showing what it looks like after the olympics. We chose 5 to do the Bobsled venue in Sarajevo. The provocation was, Should host countries have to spend so much money on building Olympics venues?

In our opinion we think that they shouldn’t have spent that much money, because they could have used it again so that they didn’t need to waste so much money, and if they did that they could save money and they could help the poor people.

Matariki Stars

LI: To understand the meaning behind Matariki.

This week our focus was about Matariki, as it is the time of year we see the Matariki stars in the sky. It is the Maori new year, a time for new beginnings. On Wednesday we had our school wide Matariki celebration. During this week we have completed different tasks to help strengthen our connections to Matariki.

The first task in this DLO was to find where we will see the matariki stars. The next task was about where in the sky is the Matariki stars and write where they are. The last task was about why does the matariki stars disappears in may and reappears in june. This task was fun because I got to learn more about the celebration of Matariki.

Greek gods

LI : To use our smart searching skills to find information about the Greek gods

Today David shared his reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table.
I found this activity fun because i herd infomation that had me shocked. I dident know there were diffrent types of gods. The Greek god I found most interesting was zeus because he is the god of the sky and lighning.

Jealousy Poem

LI: To write an abstract noun sentence

An abstract noun is something that can’t be physically touched, as in a feeling (happiness, fear, love, etc) also the 5 senses. This week, LS2 have been learning about Metaphors and Nouns. We got into groups and were introduced  on what is nouns , what we see in the poem ( The Structure) and the 5 senses. Our group created a Metaphor about happiness; Happiness is the blooming rainbow that shines when the sun comes out after the rain. A Metaphor is a comparison of two things without using ‘like’ or ‘as’. We created our own poem as a group about Jealousy.

Did this happen?

 LI: To consider both perspectives

We are learning about the Taonga of Storytelling, the story that we learnt about was about Maori legend about the mountains. For this task we worked together to decide/negotiate whether or not we think that it had happened using evidence to help support our opinion. We used our smart searching skills to help us find evidence that it happened or didn't happen. We then negotiated whether or not we though if this actually happened and then said why we thought what we thought.

I really enjoyed looking at how the other perspectives have different ways of thinking.

Creative writing

LI: To understand how to use descriptive words to make your writing more interesting.

Our focus for writing this week was to use descriptive writing, which means using words that are powerful, making your text more exciting to read and add more detail into your writing. We were tasked to work collaboratively in pairs to complete this task. Our task was to describe one of the two pictures that we were given. To make this task easier we would use our prior knowledge of sentence structures, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and descriptive words to create a piece of writing that uses descriptive words to make the text exciting to read.

Main ideas

LI: To identify main ideas in the text.

Our group watched the video about the story of Rona and the moon and how the moon took rona away. Today we wrote about Rona and the moon it told us about how Rona was lazy and bossy and made her husband do everything for her. For this activity we wrote down the main ideas starting off with the important ideas than after that we then used our negotiation skills to pick out four very important ideas making sure that we all agree that they are very important ideas then after that we then pick out three vital ideas again making sure that we all agree that they are vital ideas.

I really enjoyed this activity because it strengthened our ability to negotiate with others.

Summarising

LI: To summarise the maori story of creation.

For inquiry we are learning about Taonga of storytelling or the treasure of storytelling cultural stories that have been passed down through our ancestors.  We learnt about the maori creation story and we also  summarised the story. We used this summarizing template to summarize the video that we watched of the maori creation story. The video told us about the story of papatuanuku and ranginui in the darkness and how they separated and how their son Tawhirimatea sent mighty storms and rain to show his rage.

I really enjoyed this activity because I found it fun to learn about other cultures stories.

Venn diagram

LI: To find the differences and similarities within the different stories.

We watched a video about the maori creation story and we also read a text that was also about the maori creation story, when comparing them together there were some noticeable differences. Our task was to write down the differents and the similarities of the video version and the written version. Our group enjoyed doing this because it helped us know the difference between the two different

I enjoyed this task to because I found it easy to find the differences and the similarities.

Identify, Investigate & Design

L.I to use technological practice process to design a toy.

Our focus for this week in inquiry is to create a summary on the following, Identity, Investigate & design. All of these technological practices will help us design our very own rover toy. In our groups we all contributed to summarise the following. Identifying, is finding what the problem is, and how it can be resolved. Investigating

Mood Board

LI: to create a board of ideas that can help us create our own rover

Our focus for inquiry is Toys and machines. this also connects to the Mars landing, which was helped by these rovers seen above. The mars landing rovers were created to help investigate a planet that has not been searched. This mood board is to help us have an idea of what we are making by looking at different pictures and putting them onto a mood board., we are rubber band powered rovers.

We enjoyed this task because it helped us to have a good understanding of what we are making and how  we can make them successful.

Following classroom rules & expectations | PB4L

L.I: To follow the rules and expectations, expected from teachers.

This weeks PB4L learning is about following classroom rules and expectations. PB4L is a acronym describing Positive Behavior for Learning. PB4L helps us understand the correct behavior for inside classroom learning and outer learning. This consist of Classroom discussions, walking to assembly, behaviour on school trips, wet day procedure eg. respecting wet day monitors. All of these prospects will help us develop a strong and healthy learning enviroment. I enjoyed this activity because now people can understand what the expectations are in the classroom. In LS2 we have expectations because it is a respectful way to say or do something in the classroom.

H.O.T Questions

We were tasked to read a story called "New New Zealanders," it was about how a boy named Christian Kaka and his family seeked for a better life in New Zealand due to the war going on at Syria. After the story we were tasked to identify the main ideas in the text. For the Three Vital Ideas were Registered refugees can't be sent back to their country, The Refugees wanted people to know their story and many families moved to New Zealand because their country is to dangerous.

This activity was interesting because I found out what Syria is going through and that there are many problems outside of New Zealand.

Key Competencies

LI: To compare the Key Competencies we think we will use on camp and the Key Competencies we actually used.

Before we went to camp our challenge was to think about when we might use the Key Competencies as we faced the challenges.  When we came back from camp we looked at this and compared how we thought we would use the Key Competencies and how we actually used them.

I found this activity amzeing because i faced challenges

Infografic

LI: To create an infographic using google draw that tells your audience facts about the kokako.

This week, everyone in LS2 has been given a set of different challenges based on our camp. For this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information about the North Island Kokako bird. I found this activity amazing because I get get to work with people i dont normarlly work with.

Camp colloge

This week LS2 have been celebrating our camp. I created this collage to show my time at camp and the activities I enjoyed. To make my collage effective I thought about the size of the images, the angle of the images and I tried hard not to leave any gaps between the photos.I found this activity amazing because I i get to look at the photos at camp

Kokako lodge

LI: to create a collaborative brochure that tells others why Kokako Lodge is a great place to go on camp.

Over the last week, the students in LS2 have challenged themselves while participating in archery, high ropes, kayaking, raft building, camp cooking, pancake race and team building/orienteering.

Our group worked together to create a brochure that gives information and shows readers why Kokako Lodge is an amazing area to go camping.

We talked about the cabins, catering and the activities. The cabins are spacious and can hold up to 12 or 14 people per cabin. There is a large kitchen in the Kokako Lodge area and you can choose whether you would like to self-cater or receive food from caterers.

I found this activity enjoyable because it required us to work as a team.

The chakos

  The Chakos

As I walked up to do my concert my heart was beating faster than flash. Sweat was dripping down through my body as I did the dance. “Just do it!” I said in my head. Everyone was supporting our group.

We had 20 minutes to practice our item. We had a short item but we thought about adding some different moves to make our item long so that it suits the song. We had ideas on and off but we got the best idea from one of our group. It felt good that we had a plan to go ahead with.  I was excited and a little nervous because we really needed to have more practices but I was confident that our moves would work.

Waiting to perform was the hardest part, waiting and watching the other groups made me more nervous.  The first performance was the MC standup where their group were telling jokes. After that performance, No Rights presented their story about Dora the Explorer,
Soon after it was poly boys their performance was to do different kinds of hakas which took my mind off our group's act.

Tech reflection

LI: To Reflect on what i did at Wood work
 Hi
We had our first tech session with Mr Grundy. When we were in Mr Grundy's Wood class there were a lot of amazing designs like cars, planes, dispensers and many more cool designs that were only made of wood. We thought about eight designs we wanted to create, Mr Grundy also gave us some ideas of what to create and some of the designs looked detailed. One thing I found interesting was that most of the designs started off as a wood joint which is basically the beginning of what’s created.

Whats Leadership

Our task was about defining what a team is, leadership, role model, and responsibility. This was done in a group. Next we wrote down what we think a leader is and then write a paragraph that uses 25 words. We then copied it on to a google drawing so we can explain our words and paragraphs.

Hydration & Dehydration

L.I To understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and our learning.

Hydration means you are having plenty of water and dehydration means you're losing water from your body.

Today we did an activity that’s about hydration and dehydration. We had to find information about the importance of hydration and why we are sometimes dehydrated. We used three websites to help find information. Once we found all the information we put the information into our DLO.

The fact we thought was interesting is that water delivers nutrients to our cells. Another fact we found interesting was that water can also help our organs function properly.

LS2 favourites colour

Today me and Aisea made a pie chart. Me and Aisea made a chart of LS2's favourite colours. The colours that were chosen were Red, Blue, Black, Purple, Bby-blue, Green, Pink and Peach but Blue and Black had the most votes. As me and Aisea were going around we both predicted Blue because we were one of the people that chose that colour as well. Me and Aisea really enjoyed making this pie chart because we learnt a lot about what LS2's favourite colours are.

Summarising

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

Today for reading my group and I were reading about the treaty of Waitangi and we used a dice to help us create questions about the Treaty of Waitangi after that we made a summary about the treaty of waitangi. The treaty of Waitangi is a day of celebration to remember a historical day of peace; where the treaty was signed by many chiefs. Today we worked collaboratively in our groups, to summarise and learn about the history of the Treaty of Waitangi. In this activity we got to learn more about the Treaty of Waitangi and about why it was signed by many chiefs so New Zealand could be a part of the British Empire. One fact that I found interesting was how the treaty was split into 3 parts
