Illustrated Story

LI:To write a pourquoi (tell me why or how) story that paints a picture in the mind of the reader.

Our challenge this week was to create a porquoi story that we would illustrate and share with our junior classes. A porquoi story tells us why something is the way it is. Our story tells why/how… This morning we shared our stories with Room 2 and Room 4, and they loved listening to them. I enjoyed doing this story because I got to work collaboratively with my friends and were very creative with our animated story.

Holiday decoration

LI: To design and make a holiday decoration that fits the client brief
For this term, The LS2 students designed and created Holiday Decorations using Hand Sewing. We started off  by asking questions to our client who was Mr Johnston. Then we created a DLO(Brainstorm) and a (Mood Board) with the information that can help us understand what we are going to make. Brainstorming the information helped us learn more about How,Why,What,Shape and Who. The Materials and equipment we used were Threads, felt,Cotton,String,Buttons, googly eyes and Paper.  We needed to make sure that our decorations were 10cm big, so we started off by getting a ruler and measuring the length and the width. For my first decoration I decided to create Hanukkah star  We used paper and a drawing pencil to help us create our first design. But firstly I needed to learn the type of sewing we’re doing. We learned three different types of hand sewing which is Blanket Stitch,Outline Stitch and a Running Stitch by learning how to use the different types of stitching we practiced onto a 10cm square(made out of felt). After practising more and more we decided to create our decoration by creating our decoration we planned about. Then after creating all the planning and understanding what we need to do we created our first design. The first design I decided to create was a I really enjoyed creating this decoration because it represented the holiday celebration we were creating, I really enjoyed working with others and working together to create the design. After completing my first design I decided to create a another one which was a fish I think I’ve improved a lot in my stitching, I think

This week for maths we were learning measurments. In this subject we were talking about weight. The unit for measurement for weight are - grams, kilograms, tonnes etc. In groups we solved 3 problem challenges. For these challenges we wrote down answers in on pieces of paper. After we solved these challenges we created a DLO explaining our strategy and how we got our answer. For our strategy we used Place Value and a calculator because the numbers were too big for us to solve. In my group was Liletina, Fau, Jayden, Leroy and Diana.

Main idea,Embarrassment

This DLO is about the Main Ideas in the book this book is called the Embarrassment poem. I worked with Makaili,Afa,Liletina and  Rj. We needed to read the book twice to find out the main details that will help others and yourself understand the main Idea. As you can see in this DLO that we think that the MAIN IDEA is knowing how to handle Embarrassment. Working with my friends was really fun and enjoying because we shared our ideas and we were collaborating, working as a team. The thing that i liked about this poem is how it tell us the secret to not be embarrassment like for an example you can jest laugh
it all out till the people that is laughing at you has left.

If you were Prime Minister, what one thing would you do to change NZ for the better and why?

Inquiry

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice

This week we decided which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision.

If I was 18 I would vote for National because they have caring for animals. This means if Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi .Won the election in my electorate Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi would be our member of parliament and Jacinda Ardern ardern would become the Prime Minister.

Tell us something you found interesting and why.

Making Connections to problem solving

Today we had bad connection to the internet, instead of using the internet we went old school and used paper. We made Tangrams from a piece of A4 paper and a pair of scissors. We didn't read our instructions this time as we had to listen carefully to each step. A Tangram is a square cut into seven pieces which can be arranged to make other shapes.  Did you know it is an ancient Chinese puzzle? The hardest part was to make a square with all the 7 shapes. We had to problem solve to put the shapes together to make the different animals.  We collaborated very well together.
