We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table.

Jealousy Poem

LI: To write an abstract noun sentence

An abstract noun is something that can’t be physically touched, as in a feeling (happiness, fear, love, etc) also the 5 senses. This week, LS2 have been learning about Metaphors and Nouns. We got into groups and were introduced  on what is nouns , what we see in the poem ( The Structure) and the 5 senses. Our group created a Metaphor about happiness; Happiness is the blooming rainbow that shines when the sun comes out after the rain. A Metaphor is a comparison of two things without using ‘like’ or ‘as’. We created our own poem as a group about Jealousy.

Did this happen?

 LI: To consider both perspectives

We are learning about the Taonga of Storytelling, the story that we learnt about was about Maori legend about the mountains. For this task we worked together to decide/negotiate whether or not we think that it had happened using evidence to help support our opinion. We used our smart searching skills to help us find evidence that it happened or didn't happen. We then negotiated whether or not we though if this actually happened and then said why we thought what we thought.

I really enjoyed looking at how the other perspectives have different ways of thinking.

Creative writing

LI: To understand how to use descriptive words to make your writing more interesting.

Our focus for writing this week was to use descriptive writing, which means using words that are powerful, making your text more exciting to read and add more detail into your writing. We were tasked to work collaboratively in pairs to complete this task. Our task was to describe one of the two pictures that we were given. To make this task easier we would use our prior knowledge of sentence structures, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and descriptive words to create a piece of writing that uses descriptive words to make the text exciting to read.

Main ideas

LI: To identify main ideas in the text.

Our group watched the video about the story of Rona and the moon and how the moon took rona away. Today we wrote about Rona and the moon it told us about how Rona was lazy and bossy and made her husband do everything for her. For this activity we wrote down the main ideas starting off with the important ideas than after that we then used our negotiation skills to pick out four very important ideas making sure that we all agree that they are very important ideas then after that we then pick out three vital ideas again making sure that we all agree that they are vital ideas.

I really enjoyed this activity because it strengthened our ability to negotiate with others.

Summarising

LI: To summarise the maori story of creation.

For inquiry we are learning about Taonga of storytelling or the treasure of storytelling cultural stories that have been passed down through our ancestors.  We learnt about the maori creation story and we also  summarised the story. We used this summarizing template to summarize the video that we watched of the maori creation story. The video told us about the story of papatuanuku and ranginui in the darkness and how they separated and how their son Tawhirimatea sent mighty storms and rain to show his rage.

I really enjoyed this activity because I found it fun to learn about other cultures stories.

Venn diagram

LI: To find the differences and similarities within the different stories.

We watched a video about the maori creation story and we also read a text that was also about the maori creation story, when comparing them together there were some noticeable differences. Our task was to write down the differents and the similarities of the video version and the written version. Our group enjoyed doing this because it helped us know the difference between the two different

I enjoyed this task to because I found it easy to find the differences and the similarities.

In our groups we all contributed to summarise the following. Identifying, is finding what the problem is, and how it can be resolved. Investigating

Mood Board

LI: to create a board of ideas that can help us create our own rover

Our focus for inquiry is Toys and machines. this also connects to the Mars landing, which was helped by these rovers seen above. The mars landing rovers were created to help investigate a planet that has not been searched. This mood board is to help us have an idea of what we are making by looking at different pictures and putting them onto a mood board., we are rubber band powered rovers.

We enjoyed this task because it helped us to have a good understanding of what we are making and how  we can make them successful.

Following classroom rules & expectations | PB4L

L.I: To follow the rules and expectations, expected from teachers.

This weeks PB4L learning is about following classroom rules and expectations. PB4L is a acronym describing Positive Behavior for Learning. PB4L helps us understand the correct behavior for inside classroom learning and outer learning. This consist of Classroom discussions, walking to assembly, behaviour on school trips, wet day procedure eg. respecting wet day monitors. All of these prospects will help us develop a strong and healthy learning enviroment. I enjoyed this activity because now people can understand what the expectations are in the classroom. In LS2 we have expectations because it is a respectful way to say or do something in the classroom.

H.O.T Questions

We were tasked to read a story called "New New Zealanders," it was about how a boy named Christian Kaka and his family seeked for a better life in New Zealand due to the war going on at Syria. After the story we were tasked to identify the main ideas in the text. For the Three Vital Ideas were Registered refugees can't be sent back to their country, The Refugees wanted people to know their story and many families moved to New Zealand because their country is to dangerous.

This activity was interesting because I found out what Syria is going through and that there are many problems outside of New Zealand.
